Visa & Entry Procedures
A visa for Nepal can be obtained on arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, and at the border entry points in Kakadvitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Gaddachowki on the Nepal-India border, and on the Nepal-China border. Outside of Nepal, A visa can also be obtained at the nearest Nepal Embassy or Diplomatic Mission. A valid passport and one passport-size photograph are needed to get an arrival Nepal Visa. Visa fees can be paid in different currencies. International credit cards are also accepted for payment of visa fees. Other nationals can apply for Nepal visas directly online before their arrival at the Department of Immigration’s site. You have to fill in all the details of yourself there. 3 months of valid passport & 2 passport-size photographs are required for your visa application along with a Xerox copy of your passport main page. Gratis ( Free) Visa
Gratis Visa is issued free of cost in the case of the following categories of Visa applicants:
- Children below 10 years
- Up to 30 days for SAARC Citizens (except Afghanistan) once in a given visa Year. Afghan citizens are eligible for a Visa on Arrival only upon the recommendation of the Department of Immigration. If you are an Afghan citizen, you can request the concerned institution inviting you to Nepal for necessary paperwork with the Department of Immigration to get you a Gratis Visa ‘On Arrival.
- Non-Residential Nepalese(NRN) card holder ( issued by MoFA /Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad)
- Chinese Nationals

For Indian Nationals
As per Nepalese Immigration, Indian Nationals Travelling to Nepal must possess an original Voter Identity Card issued by the Election Commission or Passport. Children can travel with their birth certificate or School Identity Card.
Visa Restrictions
Nationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan will need to obtain a visa from Nepal Embassies or Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries, as they do not get visas on arrival at the immigration entry points of Nepal.
